Rani Pokhari or the Queen's Pond dates from the 17th century, and was built by King Pratap Malla on the eastern side of the then city limits. In the background is Durbar School, the first school of Nepal opened in 1892. It was originaly only accessible to the ruling class and was open to the pubic in 1902.
