A Review Of Beef In Ancient India

1 Jan 1971

This well-researched and well-documented book is a convincing rebuttal to all those writers and thinkers who believe that beef eating neither is nor was a taboo among the modern and ancient Indians. The author claims that most of the books which advocate beef eating and justify beef eating by quoting from the Hindu scriptures were written mercenary propagandists at the behest of the Mughal and British rulers. He accuses these writers of quoting from ancient Indian scriptures out of context without understanding the essential meaning of those texts. He firmly believes that neither Vedas nor any other Hindu scripture advocates beef eating. All Indian sages and modern great men like Mahatma Gandhi supported Beef eating or even non-vegetarianism. Indian Mutiny of 1857 was sparked by the use of tallow laced bullets.
