"Kissa" is the most popular folklorist poetic Punjabi literary composition from ancient times to modern times. Its prominent subjects romance, love, passion, chivalry, warriorship and acts of bravery. Love at first sight and immortalization of lovers despite their union is the dominant theme of many a poetic compositions called "Kissas". Kisssas of Mirza-Sahiban, Heer-Ranjha, Sohni-Mahiwal are part of the heart-beat of people of Punjab. This composition belongs to the category of this Punjabi folklore. It is supposed to be recited and sing among a group of rural folks. This genre is now an integral part of Punjabi literary Canon.
