After a period of almost one century and a quarter, the state of Punjab witness half a century of comparative peace and security during the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He rule was marked by secular, communal peaceful co-existence, religious tolerance, secular outlook and efficient governance. As a result, there was all-round progress in agriculture, trade, education, freedom of religious faith, and free celebration of religious and social customs and traditions. The present dissertation analyses the state of society in its social, economic, religious and lifestyle aspects. It highlights the prominent religious beliefs, customs and ceremonies, the state of women in each religious community. We get a kaleidoscopic view of the society during Maharaja's rule through this thesis. It makes an interesting reading
