The Sikhs

"Maintaining their high reputation for steadfast fidelity, dogged tenacity, and dauntless courage - the undying heritage of the Sikhs" - These are the words of British General who served the British Army soon after the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and who participated in the four Anglo-Sikh wars as well as in the Second World War along with the Sikh troops. Based on his personal observations and close association with the Sikh soldiers, he pays a glorious tribute to the Sikhs and their religion. However, he is partial in praise of the Jat Sikhs, who formed the bulk of the British army, and is weak on some facts of Sikh history. He calls Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion, a "Jat Hindu". He traces the Jat Sikh ancestry to the Scythian Getes and believes that fighting skill is inbuilt in Jat Sikh character
