The increase is mainly due to greater activity on the part of the Police in dealing with offences under the various minor Acts Control orders and offences in connection with the enforcement of the Prohibition. [...] The gravity of the crime position is self-evident and yet it may be worth considering whether the problem of increased crime and delinquency is in any way the result of post-war conditions coupled with the posindependence period of severe stress strain and hardships and progressive increase in the population. A comparison of crime figures of the two post-war periods i.e. [...] A resume of the last two years statistics is given below for comparing the incidence of crime against property in so far as the true cases reported to the Police are concerned:—"Number of cases in Offence. [...] In addition to the preventive action detailed above the following special measures may be mentioned as of note :- (1) Anti-Gonda Sguad.—As voilent crime was on increase particularly in the North of Bombay a squad known as Anti-Gunda Squad " was formed in August 1951 from the existing strength.
