The State is boundei on the north by the Hindol and Dhenkanal Feudatory States on the east by the Tigiria Feudatory State and the Banki Government Estate of Cuttack District on the south by the Banki Government Estate and the Kliandpara Feudatory State and on the west by the Narsingpur Feudatory State. [...] The difference in the area of the two Sett ements is markedly great and it calls for an explanation The reason for this difference appears to be that at the last Settlement the measurement was made by the pole system and apparently the forest area and the river which form more than one-third of the State were not correctly measured. [...] The soil is generally clayey and the crops are secured from the effects of the flood as well as from the depredations of the wild animals. [...] The Smghnath hill in the middle of the Mahanadi is the most salubrious place in the State.
