The Annual Report of the Indian Committee of the District Charitable Society Calcutta (Established 1830)

In 1832 the question of mere effectively administering relief to the Non-Christian poor of Calcutta was considered and a Committee called the Native Comittee" consisting of Indian gentlemen only was set up for that purpose the Central Committee of the District Chariable Society itself continuing to look after the administration of relief to the Christian poor of Calcutta. [...] a certain quantity of Standard Cloths to the Committee for sale to the public at the cotrolled prices the offer was readily accepted by the Comittee in view of the a.bnornial rise in the prices of cloths and the difficulty that was being experienced specially by( 10 ) the poorer section of the population in purchasing them.
