Summary

This was done for the purpose of bringing back the vernal equinox to the 21st of March which was the date of its occurrence in 325 A. D. when the Council of Nice was held and a rule was framed for the observance of the festival of Easter. [...] 52 complete weeks and one day therfore the last day of the first year must be Monday and consequently the first day of the second year should be Tuesday the first day of the third year Wednesday and the first day of the fourth year should be Thursday. [...] Saturday according as the remainder 0 1 2 6. Here N stands for the number representing the previous year ; C stands for the number representing the number of hundreds in N; D stands for the number of days in the year from the 1st of Jauay upto the date in question. [...] The following table gives us the seven different groups into which the years of any century can be divided so that the years belonging to the same group will have the same day on the same date of the same month and therefore the same calendar except in the case of leap years where the months of January and February will be the same as those of the prvious group with the addition of the 29th [...] The first row of each compartment contains one of the seven groups of numbers denoting the years all of which of the same century have the same day on the same date of the same month'(vide Table B).
