Bulletin No. 18 of National Geographical Society of India Banaras

1953

He said that the study of the life and customs of the people is very necessary for the correct appreciation of the culture of the country. [...] J. C. Luthra explained at the outset how the character of vegetation of a locality is an index of the nature of the soil and climate of the place on which it grows. [...] What are the variety of factors outside the soil that affect the life work of a plant ? The burning topic of the day is increase of food production and to add to to it as much as possible to make up the deficit and leave enough for the overflow of multiplying population. [...] On the west and south of the mountain runs the Jamunia Nala and its valley in the neighbourhood of Isri is about 800 feet above the sea level. [...] Last but not the least it is to be noted that this mountain has been the scene of nirvana or the attainment of salvation of the ten out of the 24 deified Jain Saints.
