Whatever the expense and whatever the inconvenience the Ministry of External Affairs must not allow any chance to be taken on the lives of the members of the Custodian Force. [...] K. C. REDDY'S recent announcement about the Government's intention to introduce legislation in the next session of Parliament primarily for the ratioalisation of the cess levied on salt indicates neither a proper appreciation of the problem of the salt industry nor a determination on the part of the Government to take the right action at the vulnerable points. [...] Self-sufficiency in domestic production and progressive efficiency in the system of movement of stocks mark the close of the preliminary stage in the development of the salt idustry. [...] Their resistance to the prescribed standard of purity of the order of 94 per cent sodium chloride content last year and the final lowering of the standard by the Government merely confirm the impediments raised by the existence of small operators. [...] NEW RULES FOR THE HOUSE The enlarged powers of the Estimates Committee conferred under the amended rules of the House of the People may not add much in substance to the mariner of the exercise of the Committee's authority.
