He became Honorary Secretary of the Society in 1941 and served as Chairman of the Sub-Committee of Trustees of the Natural History Section of the Prince of Wales Museum and as one of the editors of the Journal till his death in 1944. [...] He has also contributed important papers on birds of the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions to the Journal including the report on the Vernay Scientific Survey of the Eastern Ghats—written in collaboration with the late Hugh Whistler—which by showing up the many gaps in our knowledge of Indian ornithology led the way to the useful regional bird surveys that have since been sponsored by the Society.
