Summary
In the absence of all the high officials of the Conference the task of proposing the usual vote of thanks fell upon Dr. [...] This is but poor encouragement to the Teachers' Guild and the many teachers from the mofussil who came to Madras specially for these Meetings.* Real business began with the report of the Madras Teachers' Guild on the desirability of re-introducing the English Text-book for the Matriculation. [...] " 4. In the ease of the F. A. and B. A. :Examinations the University has prescribed English Text-books and the Optional languages have their own Text-books in all the University Examinations°"791 it is noteworthy that even among the fourteen educationist: that have declared themselves against the re-introduction some allow that the abolition of the Text-book has resulted in many eases in the t [...] The Guild would also draw your attention to certain alterntive suggestions made by those in favour of the re-introduction of the Text-book with a view to minimise the chances of success of such pupils as depend solely on annotations and text-examiner" 1. That the text paper carry a small proportion of the total marks. [...] Without one word that could give offence the Sastri suggests that the long acceptance as something outside the pale of discussion of the early Alexandrian or rather the Nicean metaphysics such as they were has tended to atrophy the higher faculties of the European theologian while the elasticity of Hindu thought has brightened the Eastern faculty in a corresponding degree.
