[...] Nevertheless a closer examination of the texts in the available forms reveals the fact that the type of differe9ce existing between the Atharvavedat on the one hand and the three different Vedas on the other; gas stated above is based on malobservation. [...] They were (1) the Paippalada (2) the Tauda (3) the Mauda (4) the Saunalaya (5) the jajala (6) the Jalada (7) the Brahmavida (8) the Devadarga and (9) the Caranavaidya. [...] We do not hear the name of this sage in any of the early Vedic texts until we come down to the Upanisads.t In the texts of the Paippaldia even wherewe find the names of several classes of priests including that of Saunaka there is no mention of Paippaläda. [...] The two forms of judcature derived their authority and jurisdiction from two different sources : the Adalats from the Mughal grant of the Diwani and treaties with the Nawabs of Bengal ; the English Judicature from the Charter of Justice granted by the King of Great Britain under the Regulation Act of 1773.
