The reports are published in the Government Gaz ette and also by the courtesy of the management in several newspapers of the province. [...] By the publication of these statistics it is hoped to keep the public informed of the actual state of health of the large towns and of the prevalence of epidemic diseases in the districts and to demonstrate the utility of vital statistics. [...] The infectious diseases the spread of which largely depends upon ovecrowding density of population and the consequent facilities for infection are consistently more prevalent in the towns whereas fevers of which malaria is the chief are more prevalent in the rural areas where the facilities are greater for the breeding of anopheline mosquitoes and where the economic condition of the peop [...] The climatic conditions the density of population and overcrowding during melas. the debilitated state of many of the pilgrims the feeding arrangements and the inadequacy of the conservancy arrangements to deal with such an enormous increase of population together with the defective water-supply all combine towards the production of epidemic cholera. [...] The mining settlements were visited by the Director of Public Health and the Assistant Director of Public Health several times during the year and close touch has always been maintained by the Public Health Department with the sanitary administration of the coalfield.
