Summary

A SERIES General Population Tables This series consists of five tables dealing with the population of the state and districts with rural-urban break-up variation in population during the past so years the classification of towns and villages by size of population and livelihood pattern of the population in the towns. [...] Towns and villages fall under nine groups :— 1 Population less than 500 2 9 between 500 and 1 000 3 1 000 and 2 000 4 2 000 and 5 000 5 27 5 000 and 10 000 6 10 000 and 20 000 7 20 000 and 50 000 8 77 50 000 and 100 000 9 above 100 000 The number of villages and towns and the total number of males and females in each of the above groups are shown in the table. [...] — i) to establish a comprehensive economic classification of the people as a whole and not merely of persons who are gainfully occupied; (ii) to simplify and improve the method of presentation of census economic data; and provide additional data; and (iii) to secure international comparability of data as recommended by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. [...] In the process of sorting of census information the division of the people into "livelhood classes" takes the place of the division of the people into "communities" at the former censuses. [...] Consequently the Principal Means of Livelihood of the latter is required to be recorded as the Principal Means of Livelihood of the former.
